Joust the Jolly: Round 2!

27 Aug

So it’s been awhile and and I thought it would be a perfect time for the next round of Joust the Jolly!  If you don’t know what this is, it is where you dear readers get to choose my workout!

Check out my last challenge here: Click ME!!

You can see my review from the challenge winner here: Click Me!!

So lets get down to business. What are you going to vote for?

With school starting back up last week and the new fancy campus gym finially completed and open I thought I would do a challenge with the gym.  With the new gym campus rec has added a whole bunch of new gym classes that students can take.  And let me tell you I love a good gym class. I’ve done kickboxing (I do that currently at the running store), plenty of zumba/dance cardio type classes nd an aqua aerobics class or two.

So for this challenge I am choosing 3 classes that I have either never done before or only done once or twice (for example something like cycling which I did like once during my freshman year in undergrad). (Granted some classes were narrowed down just because of my work/class/gra schedule).

So lets keep this short and sweet Your choices are:

Aqua Yoga – basically Yoga in the water (honestly I’ve never done Yoga before, let alone in the water. I’m more of the cardio pumping class type person)

Core Barre– Apparantly a hot new trend in the fitness world, using elements from ballet (I took 1 year of ballet when I was like 5 and gave it up for soccer if that tells you anything.  I also quit girl scouts because their meetings interfered with soccer practice. Go figure)

TRX Body Blast- Suspension training  focuses on moving through a total body workout to the rhythm of the latest radio hits.  Movements integrate strength, balance and endurance into a single dynamic format that maximizes the benefit of body weight exercises for faster results.  It’s All Core, All the Time!  Get your groove on and join us for a revolutionary way to train!

There were other classes that I’ve never done and spanned different diciplines but I thought that I should keep it to 3 choices for your sakes.

To make it easy to vote I made a poll (hopefully successfully) and I think you can vote as many times as you want. So vote or leave a comment with which workout I should do.  Right now there isn’t a cutoff date for voting but I will probably announce one in the next post.

Have you done any of these workouts? If not which one would you try? Or what is one that you would reccomend?

And just for fun here is a random picture from my computer!

Milestones of Epic Proportions.

24 Aug

So today was my Sat. long run with my Galloway group and today I ran the farthest I have ever run in my entire life!

There were a few different results from everyone’s gps (I think because some started it during the warm up and others after) but today I ran 6.81 miles! This is over 1/2 mile more than the 10k I did in March/April (can’t remember which) (which was my previous farther distance run).

To put it into perspective I ran 1/2 of a 1/2!! And guess what? I felt great at the end and felt like I could go further.

I also realized that with school back in session I felt even more accomplished because we finished our run before 8am and well before the rest of the student population rising for the morning. After my run I went and took the boy to the dog park to let him run around before it got to hot out. Come to find out they were holding a thing called “Woofstock” at the park with different vendors and dog adoption things, etc to benefit the local humane society. At it was going to start around the time I was planning on leaving so I took the boy there and looked at the vendors. I found one that nice looking dog beds (that fit into dog crates) that I might order for the boy and another boarding place that I may take him to one day.  I also took him by the dog washing station to let him get a bath (he had rolled around in the dirt during his play time) and I don’t think he was to thrilled about that but the girls that were volunteering there (had to have been in middle school I’d say) absolutely loved him.

Then disaster struck.  As I went to leave I got to my car to find that I was blocked in on both ends and could not leave the park and after a nearly 7 mile run and an 1/2 at the park I was just ready to go home (and the boy was worn out as well).  Basically I had to go back and walk to all the booths and ask people if they were driving one of those cars so that I could leave.  There was no real speaker system that reached everyone either and for all I knew those cars could belong to people that were just visiting the park not Woofstock and where walking some of the 3 miles worth of trails at the park. :/  nearly 45 minutes later and no luck.  I decided to walk back to the car and saw a lady backing her car up into a spot. I rushed over and realized that one of the cars had left and got to her before she got out so that she could pull out so I could leave. Victory!!

Also I found by doing everything and going for an early run I apparently start cooking dinner and eat by 4:45, what can I say I’ve been up for a while. lol.

My name is Holley and I broke a new personal record today.

The Last of the First

21 Aug

Hey there friends. Yes I know its been a good long while and hopefully I can now get back on track.  I went on vacation to New York and then was able to spend a couple of days home with my parents before finally coming back to school and starting my last first day of school ever! (unless of course I decide to go for 5 million more degrees but thats another story).

I’ll leave this post brief because I still need to finish unpacking and getting my stuff organized for school but thought that I would check in with everyone and not loose any of my dear friends.  I promise that by the end of this weekend there will a completely updated post of my travells and I will be back on schedule.

A few brief highlights to mention.  I had an amazing time in New York going to see all the sights (Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building and seeing the most amazing and wonderful musical on the face of the planet) and I successfully managed to get all of my planned runs in, including a 5 mile run in Central Park!

This Sat I will go on my longest run ever at 6.5 miles .3 miles further than my 10k in March (or was it April?)

Anyways this is it and I will get back to you with pictures and more details.

My name is Holley and I just had my last first day of school.

Vacation Time!

6 Aug

Hey Friends! Just to let y’all know I will be on vacation this next week in the Big Apple!!! What what!!  As such I can’t promise how/if my posts will be updated in this next week (if they are it will be really brief).

I am however going to be continuing to work out and can’t wait for my 5 mile run in central park on Sat!! Can’t wait to share with everyone about my visit in the big city.  When I come back I have 2 new products that I won/bought that I will be doing a review on (so keep an eye out).

While you wait on my vacation feel free to look back as some of my older posts (not that they go back that far) or keep up with me on twitter @holleyjollyk.

Here’s a question for you. If you were to visit NYC what would be on the top of the list for you to do?

My name is Holley and I am super excited for my vacation that starts bright and early in the morning!!!!

Beast Mode

1 Aug

Product Review Numero Dos.

To start off with I’ll give the disclaimer that this post is not sponsored by the product company (or any company).  I heard about this product from twitter friends and decided to buy one and see if it worked for me.

The Product I am reviewing today is the Women’s BeastMode Razorback Tank    by Viewsport.

You can check out their website here:

The tagline for Viewsport is “Motivation Revealed” and the cool thing abou t their products is that a secret message is revealed as you sweat on your workout.  Yes you read that right a secret message comes through your shirt, tank, whatever the more you sweat.  Crazy concept right? Thats what I thought! I heard about them through (you guessed it) twitter and thought that I would tryout one of their products.  I was needing something other than a t-shirt to go running/workout in and thought this would be perfect.

Here are the specs from the website:

With a gorgeous look, you feel motivated and lighter to do just anything. It gracefully hugs your body making you comfortable cool and dry during workouts. In this beast mode, you become a beast the moment you have sweat enough. Through ViewSPORT® Sweat-Activated Technology, the phrase “I’M A BEAST” becomes visible when the lower back becomes wet.

Key Features

They make both mens and womens clothes and you can make your own custom clothes (if you order enough)!

So I thought this was a pretty cool idea but wasn’t too sure if it would actually work.  I looked at all the designs they had and designed that the beast mode tank was my favorite and because it was fitted ordered it in an XL.

There I am in the tank! I will admit I thought it was a little small and worried me because it was a little tight fitting.  I am technically considered plus sized, however not extremely so and a little self-conscious about it so I wish it was a bit bigger.  Once I was wearing it a bit I felt more comfortable, it was probably a combination of never really wearing more fitting clothes and not used to a tank top which held my initial trepidation.

I figured a good place to test this baby out was at kickboxing because if the message didnt show there, it wasn’t going to show anywhere (I sweat alot in those kickboxing classes its intense).  So I took it to class and was feeling more comfortable (the instructor would even randomly yell out beast mode during class to encourage everyone lol).  As expected I was a sweat storm after class.

So I rushed home looked in the mirror and on the back of my tank that was previously blank was this:

“I am A Beast”

Pardon the bad quality picture, you try taking a picture using the bathroom mirror of your lower back to see how it turned out, its tough.

I saw those 4 words standing out from my sweat soaked shirt and I got to say I was excited.  Many reviews I’ve read about ViewSport’s products is that it motivates you to run/kick/lift/workout harder so that you sweat enough for the message to come through and now I completely understand why.  I want people to know how hard I worked and that I truely am a beast in my own right.

Their sweat activated technology is truely original and is said to last for 50 washes (which by that time I’m sure I will be or already have another one of their products in my dresser).  One thing I would say as a negative though is that I wish they came in larger sizes.  I have many friends who I think would love this product (or find it rather neat) however Viewsport does not currently carry their sizes.

Like my previous product review this company is very active on social networks.  You can find them interacting with customers and fans on a regular basis through facebook, twitter and instagram.

So go ahead and unlock your inner beast mode and check out this company!
